Pine St. Kitchen #7

My father, trained as a mechanical engineer, was a terrific draughtsman. A half-finished sketch of the windmill in an old notebook is a model of shading, but I only ever saw him drawing diagrams. My mother studied modern art and would have loved to be a painter, but her real talent was needlework—knitting, crewel, needlepoint, bargello, a doll’s fur coat, afghans we still snuggle under. I remade the red stripe, awning-headed curtains to her pattern in 2008. She’d already replaced them once.
